That’s no moon… it’s a new LEGO Star Wars UCS set!! Get ready to have your world rocked (or blown away by a super-laser), brick fans, because one of the biggest and most-anticipated sets of 2016 unexpectedly made its debut at a LEGO Store in Maryland this weekend! We thought that all details regarding the not-quite-announced 2016 LEGO Star Wars Death Star 75159 were a secret until September 1st, but the set has now made an abrupt world premiere!

Talk about a shocking development! Although it’s been heavily rumored for most of this year and not exactly a “secret”, we had heard that TLG was keeping all of the details of the new Star Wars Death Star LEGO set confidential until next Thursday (September 1st, 2016).

But, well–something must have changed somewhere along the way, because the set was actually out on the floor and being built publicly this Saturday at the LEGO Store in Arundel Mills, Maryland!

CM4SCI has posted these photos over on the Eurobricks forums, which definitively prove the existence of and also reveal the new Death Star set!

Above we can see a diligent employee at the Arundel Mills LEGO Store, hard at work getting the Death Star ready to be displayed in the store this coming week. Ahhh–now that’s gotta be the life!

The 75159 Star Wars Death Star set consists of 4,016 pieces, which is 213 pieces more than we got in the previous version of the playset (the 10188 Death Star), which contained just 3,803 pieces.

LEGO Star Wars Death Star 75159 Set Minifigures

This year’s LEGO 75159 Death Star set will come with one of the largest assortments of minifigures ever in any set–a whopping two dozen (twenty-four!) minifigures! Only one of these minifigs is an all-new character, mind you, but hey–who’s going to turn their nose up at an assortment like this one, right!?

The minifigures included with the 2016 Death Star 75159 LEGO set are as follows:

  • R2-D2
  • C-3PO
  • Chewbacca
  • Han Solo
  • Luke Skywalker (A New Hope)
  • Princess Leia Organa (A New Hope)
  • Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Stormtrooper Han Solo
  • Stormtrooper Luke Skywalker
  • Imperial Astromech Droid AKA R3-M3 (*NEW*)
  • Death Star Droid
  • Stormtroopers (2)
  • Death Star Gunners (2)
  • Death Star Troopers (2)
  • Imperial Officer
  • Imperial Navy Officer
  • Grand Moff Tarkin
  • Darth Vader
  • Emperor Palpatine
  • Emperor’s Royal Guards (2)

…Man, that’s a real mouthful!

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Death Star 75159 UCS Set Box BackAs exciting as it is to get a glance at this set earlier than we expected, I have to admit to being a little bit disappointed by what I’m seeing in these photos. There’s no representation for Rogue One at all in this set as I thought that there would be, and the set as a whole looks almost eerily similar to the Death Star 10188 set that was released many, many years ago before finally retiring recently.

I’ll post updates with hi-res photos here and to the Brick Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages this week as more information and images are released, so be sure to follow us on your favorite form(s) of social media!

Now that you’ve had a chance to see it for the very first time (including the front and back of the box!), what do you think of the new versions of the LEGO Star Wars Death Star UCS set, brick fans? Will this set be on your Christmas (or late fall) shopping list, or is this set just too similar to the previous iteration of the Death Star to get your building juices flowing?

  1. Plus that’s a new Imperial Navy Officer, others were pilots and this one has the security device and rank, which had been missing for the ultimate Death Star diorama (closest had been Juno Eclipse).

I agree, just the old Death Star design with new mini-figures, and I too wanted Rogue One reference.

    thanks for the post nonetheless

  2. So disappointed!! This is the second UCS with the Disney brand that I’m aware of and both aren’t great the assault on hoth should never of been a UCS as it looks like just a load of small sets merged into a box and this Death Star looks the same as the other! Rumoured price has it at €500 £430 which if true is rediculus I feel so sorry for the people that have purchased a 2008 Death Star for mega money thinking they have missed their chance to own it! Come on Disney and Lego let’s make a UCS set people can be proud of like a high at-at with the tecnic Lego this set could be the tallest in history!! Preying for the future of my Lego collection as these recent sets have not tickled my fancy

    • This is actually the third UCS set with the Disney branding on it. The first? The TIE Fighter. That was a great set.

      • Ah I do actually have that set and yes agree it’s a great set and was actually a good price! Hopefully we get some more affordable sets soon

  3. I would have Liked it even more if it had some rogue one easter eggs , like viewport sticker that had scariff or something. It would also be cool if old ben got a new hair piece. But at least we get all of the new updated figs!!!
