That’s no moon… it’s a new LEGO Star Wars UCS set!! Get ready to have your world rocked (or blown away by a super-laser), brick fans, because one of the biggest and most-anticipated sets of 2016 unexpectedly made its debut at a LEGO Store in Maryland this weekend! We thought that all details regarding the not-quite-announced 2016 LEGO Star Wars Death Star 75159 were a secret until September 1st, but the set has now made an abrupt world premiere!
But, well–something must have changed somewhere along the way, because the set was actually out on the floor and being built publicly this Saturday at the LEGO Store in Arundel Mills, Maryland!
CM4SCI has posted these photos over on the Eurobricks forums, which definitively prove the existence of and also reveal the new Death Star set!
Above we can see a diligent employee at the Arundel Mills LEGO Store, hard at work getting the Death Star ready to be displayed in the store this coming week. Ahhh–now that’s gotta be the life!
The 75159 Star Wars Death Star set consists of 4,016 pieces, which is 213 pieces more than we got in the previous version of the playset (the 10188 Death Star), which contained just 3,803 pieces.
The minifigures included with the 2016 Death Star 75159 LEGO set are as follows:
- Han Solo
- Luke Skywalker (A New Hope)
- Princess Leia Organa (A New Hope)
- Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Stormtrooper Han Solo
- Stormtrooper Luke Skywalker
- Imperial Astromech Droid AKA R3-M3 (*NEW*)
- Death Star Droid
- Stormtroopers (2)
- Death Star Gunners (2)
- Death Star Troopers (2)
- Imperial Officer
- Imperial Navy Officer
- Grand Moff Tarkin
- Darth Vader
- Emperor Palpatine
- Emperor’s Royal Guards (2)
…Man, that’s a real mouthful!
As exciting as it is to get a glance at this set earlier than we expected, I have to admit to being a little bit disappointed by what I’m seeing in these photos. There’s no representation for Rogue One at all in this set as I thought that there would be, and the set as a whole looks almost eerily similar to the Death Star 10188 set that was released many, many years ago before finally retiring recently.
I’ll post updates with hi-res photos here and to the Brick Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages this week as more information and images are released, so be sure to follow us on your favorite form(s) of social media!
Now that you’ve had a chance to see it for the very first time (including the front and back of the box!), what do you think of the new versions of the LEGO Star Wars Death Star UCS set, brick fans? Will this set be on your Christmas (or late fall) shopping list, or is this set just too similar to the previous iteration of the Death Star to get your building juices flowing?
