While we’ve already seen quite a few great LEGO Star Wars 2017 sets, ranging from the Clone Wars to Rebels to Rogue One to the prequels, Original Trilogy sets have been conspicuous by their absence… until now! While we’ve seen all of these vehicles before on more than one occasion (and then some), some old favorites are flying back in in all-new builds: the 2017 LEGO Star Wars A-Wing, Desert Skiff and Luke’s Landspeeder have now been revealed!
Seeing as how TLG has now been releasing LEGO Star Wars sets for over a decade and a half, it’s no big surprise that pretty much every iconic ship from the Original Trilogy has been released in brick form… two or three or four times (or more).
Even so, there are new Star Wars fans being born every year, and so there’s a perpetual need for refreshing (and improving!) previously-done vehicles. Let’s take a look at this year’s sets…
First up, we’ve got the LEGO A-Wing Starfighter 75175. This ship seems like a really bizarre choice to me, since we literally just got a new green A-Wing this summer. Even so, this red A-Wing Starfighter is made up of 358 pieces and is easily going to be the largest and most detailed build of the Rebellion’s fastest ship to-date.
LEGO 75175 includes three minifigures, and the selection is actually pretty good: the ubiquitous A-Wing Pilot, along with a Rebel Ground Crew minifigure and a new General Lando Calrissian minifigure! It’s about time we got another Lando!
Next up we’ve got the 75173 Luke’s Landspeeder set. With just 149 pieces included, this set is downright tiny! I’ve got more nice Landspeeders than I ever wanted (which is just one, honestly), but I can’t deny that this one is looking really sharp! First time LEGO Landspeeder owners will be quite happy with this one.
And despite the small size of this set, it actually includes four minifigures: C-3PO, Ben Kenobi, Tatooine Luke Skywalker and a Tusken Raider. One can never have too many Tusken Raider minifigures, though I don’t like this Tusken’s chances against old man Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Finally, we’ve got the newest version of the LEGO Desert Skiff 75174. This time out, the Desert Skiff contains 277 pieces and ought to retail for $29.99. I’m surprised to see a new Skiff so soon, as its last release ended up getting blown out in stores in 2012. This is a cute little set, though it’s weird to see it in a year without a new Jabba’s Skiff expected.
The LEGO 75174 Desert Skiff includes four minifigures: Boba Fett, (blinded) Han Solo, Chewbacca and an unnamed Skiff Guard. The ever-popular Sarlacc monster also makes an appearance here–look out, Boba Fett!
All three of these new Original Trilogy Star Wars LEGO sets are expected to be released in Q1 2017, although it’s not confirmed at this time if the OT sets will be ready for release worldwide on January 1st 2017. I’ll post an update to the Brick Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages once the release date and prices are confirmed for this trio of sets.
What do you think of the three classic Star Wars vehicles that complete the winter 2017 sets lineup, Star Wars fans? Do you have your eye on any of these new builds, and do,you consider these to be the best iterations yet of these vehicles?
