2017 LEGO Star Wars Duel on Naboo 75169 Set Photos Preview!

Another day, another LEGO Star Wars 2017 set photos preview! We’re still waiting on the ultra hi-res photos for this batch of Winter 2017 sets, but when I see a set from my favorite Star Wars movie, I just can’t help blabbing about it early. Coming this winter, brick fans the world over can build what’s largely considering the best lightsaber fight ever with the LEGO Duel on Naboo 75169 set!

My opinion has always been a, uh, “little different” than most regarding Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Whereas I love seeing the prewar galaxy and the beginnings of Palpatine’s Machiavellian scene, popular opinion is that the movie, well… blows.

So it’s not a huge surprise that whereas I saw the LEGO 75169 Duel on Naboo and my eyes immediately lit up, plenty of other collectors have been vocal about their opinion that the set is sub-par.

75169-lego-star-wars-duel-on-naboo-setPersonally, I think this Duel on Naboo set is pretty rockin’ for a small-sized playset. This is easily the most detailed brick-built Theed Generator Complex environment that we’ve ever gotten, and while it’s a bit bare-bones, I could tell with one glance exactly what it was.

An action feature lever is also built into the set, which I believe will allow the force shield bars to rotate out of the way so that Obi-Wan Kenobi can advance to the final battle. Brilliance. I also love the excellent use of translucent bricks in this set, including translucent pink, blue and red parts that really pop and make the set shine.

Duel on Naboo 75160 comes with all three of the only characters it should ever come with: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul minifigures.

I’ve got minifigs of all these guys many times over and none of them look redesigned to me at a glance (help me out, readers), but even if these are simple repacks of old figures, it’ll be nice for new fans to get all three of the Duel of the Fates participants in one place.

2017-lego-star-wars-duel-on-naboo-setThe 2017 LEGO Star Wars Duel on Naboo set will be a mass-release set available online and in stores, and is due to be officially released in Q1 2017. It may or may not be available in all countries in January alongside the new Rogue One sets.

Just like the Carbon Freezing Chamber in 2016 was delayed and it didn’t appear simultaneously with the launch of the Force Awakens sets last winter, the Duel on Naboo set’s release may be staggered–I’ll post updates to the Brick Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages once concrete details are confirmed.

What do you think of the sole Winter 2017 LEGO Star Wars Phantom Menace set, brick fans? Will you be staging your own Duel of the Fates with the Duel on Naboo set, or are you disappointed with some aspect of this set?

  1. I absolutely love it. Obviously I’d like it to be a little bigger… but my wallet will be thankful for the smaller size! I think it’s a great snapshot of the scene and an awesome collectible.
