2017 LEGO Marvel Hulk vs. Red Hulk 76078 Set Photos Preview!

The LEGO Super Heroes theme has improved dramatically since its inception, and whereas once upon a time most collectors were only buy the sets for the minifigs, the builds are oftentimes just as desirable as the minifigures these days. But if there was one set that 99% of collectors were going to buy in 2017 solely for the figures–this would probably be it: the LEGO Marvel 2017 Hulk vs. Red Hulk 76078 set has now been fully revealed!

Now that I’ve fully-discussed the other two LEGO Marvel Winter 2017 sets–Captain America Jet Pursuit and Iron Man: Detroit Steel Strikes–let’s take a step back and talk about the final set in this winter’s Marvel theme. During San Diego Comic-Con 2016 back in July, TLG debuted a teaser of the very first one of their 2017 Marvel sets: 76078 Hulk vs. Red Hulk.

I was… not exactly in love with this full set when it was first announced, but I’ve had four months now to mull it over. Has my opinion of this set improved? Let’s take a look…

LEGO 76078 includes four minifigures, of which three are all-new and the other one is slightly tweaked from past releases.

I’ve actually grown really fond of both these characters over the last few years, and am thrilled to see them getting some minifigure love.

On the other side of the battleground, we’ve got a repainted Green Hulk Big Fig (with classic green hair and purple pants) alongside the debut LEGO She-Hulk minifigure. Lawyer-by-day, Hulk-by-night, Jennifer Walters is among my favorite Marvel characters, making this set an instant purchase for me.

Unfortunately, that means I’m also buying this wacky green and purple gatling gun-packing dune buggy (which I can promise was not otherwise on my bucket list). I cannot imagine why any Hulk would feel the need to drive around in a dune buggy, but the car gives me a fun retro cartoon vibe, so I don’t totally hate it. It’s absolutely not anything that I’d ever buy on its own, but being forced to buy it to get desirable minifigs… yeah, I’ll take it.

lego-76078-hulk-vs-red-hulk-setThe Winter 2017 LEGO Marvel Hulk vs. Red Hulk set will be available online and in stores as a mass-release set and is expected to be released officially in January 2017 (although delays do sometimes happen with the typhoon of new releases that hit each January). I’ll update the Brick Toy News Facebook Page and Twitter once this set begins being found in stores so collectors will know when to start their serious hunting.

Sound off, brick fans! What do you think of the Red Hulk vs. Hulk set? Is anyone out there actually excited about the vehicles in this set? And who’s planning to purchase this set solely for the minifigs?

  1. As a massive fan of the green giant himself this is definitely a set I will have to purchase, but the fact they included two cars? I suppose if they are leaning towards them being “monster trucks” I could possibly live with, other than that total waste of time.

  2. Giant cars, really? Even if for some bizarre reason the set absolutely needed to have two different vehicles, why these things? I mean, for the Reds, they could’ve at least given them something with a military theme, since it would tie into Thunderbolt Ross’s history. Not entirely sure what would make sense for the Greens though.
