2017 LEGO Batman Movie Sets! Batcave! Arkham Asylum!

Just two days before New York Comic-Con 2016 rocks all our worlds, the LEGO Group (TLG) has gotten the “big news” drop on every other toy company out there by revealing first images of some of the biggest LEGO 2017 sets! Coming our way this winter (and maybe, just maybe on display at NYCC 2016?), it’s the 2017 LEGO Batman Movie Batcave, Arkham Asylum and Mr. Freeze sets!

UPDATE 11/27/2016: The first wave of LEGO Batman Movie Sets is now available for order online!

It’s become somewhat of a tradition for TLG to unveil all-new upcoming sets at New York Comic Con each year, with reveals historically ranging from Nexo-Knights to TMNT to The Hobbit, but in advance of NYCC this year, they’ve revealed first images of several sets that are going to be blockbusters this winter, coming from The LEGO Batman Movie!

We’ve only got one hi-res image each to look at so far, but let’s make our first impressions of the trio…

First up, we’ve got a set that we absolutely couldn’t have a Batman movie without: a new LEGO Batman Movie Batcave! At 1,045 pieces for $99.99, this set is a solid value of under 10 cents per piece. In fact, that’s going to be a trend with these three sets, as all of them meet my “value” standard. Great work, TLG!

lego-batman-movie-penguin-duck-boat-alfred-figuresThe new Batcave features a rare Alfred minifigure, along with Batman, the Penguin, several alternate costumes for Batman, and some brick-built Penguin robots. I never get tired of these penguin minions! A sleeker and more deadly Penguin Rubber Ducky Boat is also included, which looks positively teeming with weaponry this time out. Scary!

We won’t have to wait until 2017 for this set, either–it’s expected to be in stores (and on my Christmas list) November 27th, 2016!

lego-batman-movie-arkham-asylum-setNext, we’ve got the new LEGO Arkham Asylum set, which contains 1,628 pieces for $149.99. This set is expected to be a Toys R Us exclusive on-shelf January 1st, 2016.

While I imagine a lot of folks are going to prefer the D2C Arkham Asylum released a few years back, I’m happy to see a new iteration based off this iconic setting’s appearance in the LEGO Batman Movie.

In addition to the Two-Face and Montoya minifigures, I see movie Batman and Robin, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, an Asylum worker, two generic cops, and new inmate versions of The Joker, Poison Ivy, The Riddler and Catwoman.

I’m curious to see what the other side of the building will look like, but so far the LEGO Batman Movie Arkham Asylum set looks like a winner.

Finally, the Mr. Freeze Ice Attack set, which contains 201 pieces for $19.99 and is expected to be released November 27th 2016.

For 20 bucks, this is… okay, but definitely not a $20 set I’m psyched about like the amazing Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-Up Marvel set we got this summer. The Mr. Freeze minifigure’s mech looks cool enough (no pun intended), but this obviously isn’t as fancy as the other sets. Love that new hand piece on the Mr. Freeze Mech, though!

lego-batman-movie-mr-freeze-mechI’ll be in New York City all week long for New York Comic Con 2016 this week, and if these sets or any others are displayed at the show, I’ll be sure to post a ton of photos to our social media pages–so be sure to follow the Brick Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages, if you don’t already do so!

What do you think of the three latest LEGO Batman Movie toys to be revealed, brick fans? Are any of these sets on your winter shopping list, or are you taking a wait-and-see attitude with sets based off this movie?
